Wan 2.1 is an open-source video model from Alibaba, which in its price range shows results comparable to proprietary solutions. At a cost of 4 credits for Image-to-Video and 3 for Text-to-Video, Wan 2.1 has become the optimal choice for regular video content creation without significant expenses.
The model performs well in animating landscapes, bringing illustrations to life, and creating simple motion scenes. In terms of detail and realism of physics, it falls short of Kling v2.1, but for most tasks — stories, travel content, visualizations — the difference is insignificant. Meanwhile, the generation speed of Wan is noticeably higher.
Wan 2.1 is convenient for iterative selection of the desired scene: you can go through 5–7 prompt options for the cost of one Kling clip. Once the idea is found, the final version can be regenerated in Kling for maximum quality.
